Melton was born in Bradenton and graduated from Bayshore High School in 1979. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from Samford University (1983) where he also lettered in varsity soccer and a Law degree from Cumberland School of Law (1986), he returned home to Bradenton to begin practicing. He obtained a Master of Laws degree (L.L.M) in Health Law and Policy from Hofstra University (2021) and is a licensed realtor (2022) with Wagner Realty. He is AV rated by Martindale Hubble and was Board Certified by the Florida Bar in Marital and Family Law (1993-2019) and Civil Trial (2004-2019).
He has practiced with Schofield, Spencer & Little, as a solo practitioner, with Kallins, Little & Delgado and currently is the managing partner of Kallins, Little and Brosious (Hardball Law) located in Palmetto.
He has received numerous awards for his community services including the Boys and Girls Club National Medallion (the highest honor the organization can award a volunteer), The Manatee County Bar Association Community Service Award, The Manatee County Bar Association William C. Grimes Award for Lifetime Achievement in Community Service, Manatee County Boys and Girls Club Magnetic Man Award, and others.
Melton is a conservative man of faith, who keeps a concealed carry permit, believes strongly in individual rights, fiscal responsibility, less government and the power of local government.
